The gold is 23 carat gold leaf and generally lasts 20 to 25 years on an upright headstone and about half that on one that is on an angle or flat.
All memorials are made using natural stone, mostly granite. However other materials such as slate, marble, sandstone, moss rocks and natural boulders are available.
Memorials/Monuments may be installed any time after the funeral. Some pre-need memorials are installed before if required; the lawn cemeteries have a concrete beam to fix them to.
Traditional cemeteries space the plots out so that the foundation is built on solid ground with the grave in the middle.
The materials used are all natural and will last hundreds of years. The polish on the memorials is natural as well, and comes from polishing the stone with finer and finer diamond discs, bringing out the natural lustre in the stone. Diamonds have to be used as granite is the sixth hardest substance known to man.
